photoSCHWEIZ 2026

At this year’s photoSCHWEIZ - the biggest collective photography exhibition in Switzerland, unboxing cycles will be raising awareness and opening the conversation about the menstrual cycle through images.

In 2024, Maja followed ten women across Switzerland, from different backgrounds and with distinct lifestyles.

The menstrual cycle is often compared to nature’s four seasons:

❄️ menstruation = winter
🌷 follicular phase = spring
☀️ ovulation = summer
🍂 luteal phase = autumn

each carrying a distinct energy. Over the course of the year, Maja worked closely with these women to translate their cyclical experiences into symbolic visual expressions within diverse Swiss landscapes (all real images, no AI).

The aim was to highlight the differences between the phases of the menstrual cycle, how biological and hormonal changes affect each menstruator uniquely, and how this relationship evolves throughout life.

The project resulted in a total of 40 images. At photoSCHWEIZ, two women and their interpretations of their cycles will be presented (8 images). 🖤

Stop by and say hi :) (the photographs are being exhibited at the Gartensaal #16)
